Julie credits a typical 1960’s and 1970’s middle-class upbringing during her childhood with her siblings and the neighborhood kids as the foundation for her positive outlook on life. Always busy with activities, she did most of her early writing as part of her school work. However, she was inspired by the very creative writing style her sister, Jan, used as a columnist in their high school newspaper, The Catamount, and found solace in the consistency and structure of classical poetry. It was the logical order of numbers that led to an education and career path in business, accounting and auditing.
Yearning for the creativity lacking in her work life, Julie started a writers group, The Placer Word Miners, while residing in Auburn, California, a historic gold mining town in Placer County at the base of the foothills of the Sierra-Nevada mountains. During the 5-years of the group’s existence, she explored various forms of poetry and verse with the other group members and sponsored community open mic events. In her work life, she has done accounting, internal auditing, and written contracts, white papers, board memos and grant applications. Her editing skills have been utilized by all of her employers. She contributed an article to the May 2016 issue of The Nugget Magazine, a trade publication of the Sacrament District Dental Society, as part of her work to improve the oral health of young children and their families.
Julie continues to dabble in poetry and the creative side of writing while utilizing her strengths in reviewing and editing. She has an outline for a children’s picture book, developed during a challenge to use a button in a story, and is doing character development that may lead to a romantic novel. She is looking forward doing more editing, creative writing projects and grant writing during 'retirement'.
